This joint study with University of Massachusetts and San Diego State Study aimed to determine whether students' PUR (Percentage of Time on Plan) and their GPA data move together—that is, whether higher PUR values are associated with higher GPA values. The study revealed a strong correlation between plan utilization and students' GPA. Students who consistently follow the Guaranteed 4.0 plan perform significantly better academically than their peers.

The case study student group illustrates this difference dramatically. Students with over 90% plan utilization achieved an average GPA of 3.80, compared to an average GPA of 1.08 for those who followed the plan less than 40% of the time. This results in an average GPA difference of 2.72!

Research Findings: Guaranteed 4.0 Reading Strategies-Impact on Comprehension

A prominent West Coast research institute conducted a study with three groups of thirty participants, each given twenty minutes to read a general-purpose article. The groups were divided as follows:

  • The “Control” group read the article without any additional actions.
  • The “Highlight” group was allowed to highlight, circle, and underline while reading.
  • The “BPR” group received fifteen minutes of instruction on how to perform BPR (Bullet Point Reading), including one practice BPR session before reading the article.

All participants then took a quiz based on the material read. In Test 1a, the “Control” and “Highlight” groups scored an average of 27%, while the “BPR” group scored an average of 77%. For the second test, administered 48 hours later, participants were given five minutes to review the same article. The “Control” group reviewed the article without any additional actions, while the “Highlight” and “BPR” groups reviewed their personally annotated copies from Test 1. They then took the same quiz again (with the question order changed). In Test 2, the scores were as follows: the “Control” group scored 32%, the “Highlight” group scored 25%, and the “BPR” group scored 82%.
